Recently, I have been forced to slow down with a recently repaired torn Achilles. This gives one a lot of time to read, listen to Audible and think. I have rolled through multiple books and compiled a Summer 2019 Reading List that I have deemed as “must-reads” during the next few months. I would love to hear any that are high on your list and you think should be added to the below collection!

Note: Some of these I have purchased on Audible…I am a sucker for a good accent reading to me. These are noted below! I have also included a personal “rating” for the ones I have read and plan to update as I read them all!

  • The Clockmaker’s Daughter – Kate Morton – Fiction | I just finished this book and I half-read, half-listened to it on Audible. The complex plotline, LONG book, different points of view and so many twists and turns that keep you intrigued. Think abandoned girl, living on the streets in what hopes to be a rags-to-riches story but ends up being so much more. Rating: 8/10
  • Where the Crawdads Sing – Delia Owens – Fiction | My best friend gave me this book to read while recovering and I laughed, I cried and I did not want this book to end. One of the best books I have read in a long time. PLEASE put this book on your list if you have not read it. From Amazon: “an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murderRating: 12/10
  • The Food Explorer – Daniel Stone – Nonfiction | This book caught my eye in the airport bookstore with its bright cover. Then, I gladly whipped out my card when it promised stories of globetrotting, food exploring and how one man helped to shape modern-day food as we know it.
  • The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty – Susan Page – Biography | Biographies are not usually my thing but something about Barbara Bush and her life has always interested me. Excited to circle back and update with thoughts!
  • The Bride Test – Helen Hoang – Fiction | I chose this book because we all need a fun beach read and a classic boy and girl falling in love story…and because I am getting married so the title spoke to me!
  • Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered – Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark – Dual Biography | I love this podcast so it was only natural that this book made it on my list. *Audible
  • The Huntress – Kate Quinn – Historical Fiction | The Huntress, a tale of a post-WWII Soviet Union, tells of layers of secrets and truths of just what people will do to keep secrets hidden and how others fight to unveil certain identities and truths. Cue a deadly (literally) Nazi murderess nicknamed, The Huntress.
  • The Vintner’s Daughter – Kristen Harnisch – Fiction | “…ambition, betrayal, and love take a spirited young woman from the Loire Valley to turn-of-the-century Manhattan to California’s wine country.” This book has been sitting on my shelf for a while and its time to read it! Combining some of my favorite things, this book seems like it has a recipe for a great read!
  • Save me the Plums – Ruth Reichl – Biography | Another example of the back of a book that hooked me immediately, “trailblazing food writer and beloved restaurant critic Ruth Reichl took the job (and the risk) of a lifetime when she entered the high-stakes world of magazine publishing. Now, for the first time, she chronicles her groundbreaking tenure as editor in chief of Gourmet.” – Amazon
  • The Golden Hour – Beatriz Williams – Historical Fiction | I belong to “BOTM” and this was my June pick! From the author of The Summer Wives, this story covers the wild world of spies, love, and crime in a World War II Bahamas.
  • The Only Woman in the Room – Marie Benedict – Historical Fiction | “A powerful novel based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist whose groundbreaking invention revolutionized modern communication” – Amazon – *Audible Rating: 10/10
  • The Night Tiger – Yangsze Choo – Fiction | “servants and masters, age-old superstition and modern idealism, sibling rivalry and forbidden love” – Amazon – *Audible
  • The Book of Lost and Found – Lucy Foley – Fiction | Family history, love stories and what looks like a promising summer easy read.
  • The Peacock Emporium – Jojo Moyes – Fiction | I purchased this on Audible and have loved it so far. It does jump around from multiple characters but I can’t wait to see how it all comes together! “Thirty-five years later, Suzanna Peacock is struggling with her notorious mother’s legacy. The only place Suzanna finds comfort is in The Peacock Emporium, the beautiful coffee bar and shop she opens that soon enchants her little town.” – Amazon
